Grand County Democrats Work for Residents

We’re on your side

Residents of Moab and Grand County face challenges ranging from a shortage of affordable housing to a lack of jobs that pay enough to actually live here.  With Arches and Canyonlands National Parks in our backyard, it’s not surprising that tourism is our biggest economic driver. But tourism and our economy need to work for everyone.

The Grand County Democratic Party is standing up to outside and special interests that put the bottom line of investors and second home owners over our quality of life and needs of residents and workers.

We are committed to putting residents first and making Moab a sustainable and great place to live, work, raise a family, and enjoy the friendliness of small-town life.

On the issues

Responsible tourism

The public lands within and surrounding Grand County are our crown jewels. Since these landscapes support our economic base, we have a duty to protect them for future generations and to take protective actions so they continue to make Moab an international destination that people dream of visiting.  We support our small businesses who welcome visitors to our area, while also supporting programs like trail ambassadors and responsible public lands management to balance and mitigate the impacts of tourism.

Smart growth

Everyone who calls Grand County their home deserves the dignity of a place to live. We are dedicated to protecting our water resources and growing sustainably, while prioritizing the needs of residents in our workforce, those on a fixed income, and those just getting started. Special interests and some short-sighted politicians want to sell Grand County to the highest bidder. We have the backs of the people keeping the lights on.

Residents over developers

Moab is on the map, leading to residents competing with wealthy out-of-town developers and investors for housing, and forcing us to fight to protect our natural treasures. The Kane Creek developers have poured thousands of dollars into the coffers of the Grand County GOP and their chosen candidates. We are standing strong to oppose the developers’ efforts to turn the Colorado River corridor into a private sanctuary for wealthy second home owners.

Local control

For decades, outside investors and ambitious politicians have tried to impose their will on Grand County. While the state tries to take charge of our community, we are pushing back. We fight to keep noisy vehicles out of our neighborhoods.  We support spending our tourism tax revenues locally to power our regional economy and benefit our community. We champion policies and candidates who put local needs and our residents first.
